21 Savage’s four-year immigration saga has finally come to an end, as the rapper announced he is now a “lawful permanent resident” of the U.S. and that his status is no longer in doubt, allowing him to travel to England, where he was born.
21 Savage said “London, I’m comin home” in an Instagram post set to Skylar Grey’s “Coming Home,” alluding to his first-ever performance in the United Kingdom. (Drake, who collaborated with 21 Savage on the U.S.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained 21 Savage back in February 2019, and the government later disclosed that the rapper is actually from the United Kingdom and overstayed his visa after coming to America as a youngster.
The rapper She’yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph was released after spending a week in an ICE detention facility and was given permission to stay in the country while his immigration issues were resolved. Although 21 Savage was permitted to travel the country, including as a special guest on Drake’s tour, he was not permitted to play abroad.
Abraham She’yaaSince his initial incarceration by ICE, Joseph has complied with all applicable immigration regulations, according to 21 Savage’s immigration attorney Charles H. Kuck. He is now a lawful permanent resident of the United States with the freedom to go abroad. His immigration court hearings have been concluded.
21 Savage’s travel restrictions were relaxed, but Lil Baby filled in for him on Friday night during Drake’s first of two concerts in his hometown of Toronto. 21 Savage hasn’t travelled outside of the United States in 21 years, so if he performs tonight in Toronto, it will be his first-ever international performance.
Drake earlier implied that 21 Savage’s immigration problems would soon be resolved on the For All the Dogs song “8 AM in Charlotte” by saying, “Savage received a green card straight out of the consulate/Where I go, you go, brother, we Yugoslavian.
