The remainder of Labour Day weekend will be hot and humid in many US locations.

Intense heat is forecast for much of the United States for the final holiday weekend of the summer.

Beginning on Sunday and continuing for a few days, the Great Plains, the Great Lakes, and the Northeast will all experience record heat.

From Sunday through Thursday, the Northeast will see its first real heat wave of the year, with high temperatures in the 90s. For large cities like New York City, which has only had three consecutive days of temperatures in the 90s this year and none within the last month, this will be a huge difference.

In the upcoming days, Washington, D.C., is predicted to see temperatures that will be close to records and may perhaps top 100 degrees on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The capital of the country has so far this year only seen a high of 97 degrees.

Over the next few days, temperatures in other places including Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Richmond, Virginia, and Lubbock, Texas, are probably going to be close to records.

According to records for June, July, and August, more than two dozen locations throughout America saw their warmest summer on record in 2023.

Major cities including Miami, New Orleans, Houston, and Phoenix all suffered record-breakingly hot summers. Phoenix also had its driest summer on record, with only.12 inches of rainfall.

Texas had nine cities that experienced their hottest summers on record, followed by Florida with five, Louisiana with four, Alaska with three, Mobile, Alabama, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

A number of significant cities, including Dallas, Austin, Texas, Tampa, Seattle, Minneapolis, Tucson, Arizona, and Albuquerque, New Mexico, saw one of their top five hottest summers.

Warm ocean waters are fostering hurricanes in the tropics as the U.S. endures record-breaking heat on land.

A tropical system that is now growing off the coast of Africa might produce a hurricane that moves into the Caribbean by next weekend.
