According to US Trade Representative Katherine Tai, India and the US have decided to strengthen economic relations and expand collaboration in sectors such vital minerals. This was announced on Saturday.
On January 12, Tai and India’s commerce minister Piyush Goyal had their yearly trade policy meeting in New Delhi. Tai is on a three-day visit to India.
In an effort to ease diplomatic tensions following Washington’s accusations late last year that an Indian official was involved in an attempted assassination of a Sikh separatist leader on American territory, the two countries are working to enhance their possibilities for bilateral trade.
India has opened its own inquiry into the claims and stated that any such conduct was against official policy.
While speaking with Goyal,
According to an unnamed Indian official, Washington and New Delhi would share information in order to strengthen their relationship in this field. These negotiations are not open to the public.
“In terms of the roadmap (for critical minerals), we are going to begin with fact-finding, exploring and establishing a common vocabulary and then develop our tools and ideas from there,” Tai said at a news conference in New Delhi.
According to a joint statement released during the Jan. 12 meeting, India also asked Washington to reinstate duty-free access to some commodities under the so-called generalised system of preferences and asked the United States to enhance its visa procedures for Indian business experts.
