The US eases import restrictions on Malaysian glove producer Supermax
The CBP further stated that Supermax has “taken steps to remediate the forced labour indicators identified in its supply chain.”
The CBP reported in 2021 that it had discovered 10 of the 11 indicators of forced labour put forth by the International Labour Organisation in Supermax’s manufacturing process.
The ILO’s indicators of forced labour include long hours, debt servitude, physical and sexual assault, and cruel housing and working conditions.
Allegations of maltreatment of foreign workers have brought Malaysian companies, which manufacture everything from palm oil to medical gloves, more attention in recent years.
